President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’snominee for the Resident Electoral Commission (REC) inNiger Statewas not the person screened by the Senate yesterday, it was learnt.
Prof Mohammed Yelwa was until yesterday the President’s nominee but one Mohammed Sadiq appeared before the Senate panel.
Sadiq was screened and confirmed as REC-designate by the Red Chamber.
There was an allegation that a senator substituted the president’s nominee for and ‘smuggled’ Sadiq’s name into the Order paper.
Ten nominees were scheduled for screening yesterday but the nominees – Anugbum Onuoha (Rivers); Isma’ila Kaura Moyi (Zamfara) and Bunmi Omoseyindemi (Lagos) did not appear before the Senate.
Those cleared are: Etekarnba Umoren (Akwa Ibom); Isah Shaka Ehimeakne (Edo); Oluwatoyin Babalola (Ekiti); Abubakar Ahmed Ma’aji (Gombe); Shehu Wahab (Kwara) and Aminu Kasimi Idris (Nasarawa).(Courtesy, excluding headline, The Nation)
