Policemen
Policemen in Benue State rescued two people, including a pastor of Deeper Life Bible Church, who were accused of organ theft.
The incident, according to the report, happened on Saturday at Kanshio, the new layout in Makurdi, the capital city of the state.
According to a video trending on social media, the pastor, identified as Terna, and a member of the church, Jude Tyokula, were beaten up by irate youths who accused them of harvesting someone’s organ before they were rescued by the police.
In the video clip, it was observed that Tyokula was stripped naked and beaten up while someone described as a youth leader in the community interrogated him.
Tyokula in the video admitted to having harvested someone’s organ in the community and that he did it through prayer.
He claimed that his pastor, whom he had known since 2008, engaged him to harvest organs for the sum of N1 million.
According to Tyokula, “He (Pastor Terna) is my pastor at Deeper Life Bible Church. I have known him since 2008 and have been worshipping in his church since 2012. I am an usher in the church, and he asked me to harvest organs with the promise of one million naira.”
The man who claimed to be a dedicated member of the church said that he works as a security guard at one of the banks in Makurdi.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Catherine Anene, has dismissed the claim and described the alleged organ theft as false with no iota of truth.
While reacting to the trending video, Anene said that someone in the community raised an alarm, and some youths picked up the closest person and beat him up.
She added that the accused decided to admit and mentioned his pastor as the culprit so as to save his life with the hope that the pastor would save him.
“I met these people this Sunday morning at B Division, but when they narrated the story, it was pathetic.
“Someone will raise an alarm, and a group of youths who know nothing about what happened will begin to torture innocent people. This is inhumane and condemnable.
“According to them, a young man raised an alarm about the theft of a genital organ. The youth picked up the closest person and beat him up till he decided to admit and mention his pastor as the person who sent him with the hope that he would come and save him.
“The youth got the same pastor and beat him up as well. Help came when the police got to know them and rescued them. There is no element of truth in this,” the PPRO said.
Anene, who said that since the history of allegations of organ theft, it has never been proven, stated that no arrest has been made. (Nigerian Tribune)
