Mr Anthony Uga, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, has called on hospitals to accord accident victims quick medical attention.

Uga stated this during the Corps’ 2023 third quarter workshop at the Command’s headquarters in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

The programme Is with the theme: “Partnership for improved road safety management in Ogun State; short and long term possibilities.”

Uga said that the corps often faced challenges in getting hospitals to quickly respond to accident victims, especially those with serious injuries.

The sector commander, however, noted that government hospitals were really doing well in quick response to accident victims.

He urged hospitals to treat accident victims as a matter of urgency, saying that their lives could depend on it.

Uga equally disclosed that the FRSC in the state was partnering with the Nigerian Army, Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to improve its services in the state.

He added that the rationale for the partnership was to enhance service delivery to the motoring public.

“Road safety is a shared responsibility not a one man business so we need to partner other agencies, organisations and people to open new doors so that we can drive our services home,” he said.

In his remarks, Dr. Kunle Ashimi, the State Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), stated that hospitals often faced with challenges which sometimes rendered them ineffective in handling accident victims.

He stressed that the emergency units of some hospitals, especially government hospitals, were occupied with patients who were unable to pay their hospital bills, making it uneasy for the facility to quickly attend to emergencies.

The NMA chairman promised that the association would continue to partner with the FRSC for the benefit of the people. (NAN)
