Benue state commissioner of police, CP Bartholomew Onyeka
The Benue State Commissioner of Police (Compol), Bartholomew Onyeka, has registered his dismay over the increasing number of non-security road blocks in the state and has summarily ordered that such road blocks be dismantled with immediate effect.
The Commissioner who warned those connected with mantling of such road blocks to desist forthwith or face the wrath of the law, also directed heads of all formations in the state to enforce the order within their areas of jurisdiction.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Sewuese Anene and made available to Daily Independent in Makurdi on Thursday, the Compol ordered the arrest of defaulters and also advised Benue people to report persons involved in the mounting of illegal road blocks to the police.
According to Anene, “The Commissioner of Police, Benue state command, CP. Bartholomew N. Onyeka psc (+) has ordered the dismantling of non-security road blocks in the state and the arrest of persons involved in the act.
“The CP ordered this after a tour in some parts of the state where he observed with dismay the presence of non security road blocks.
“Consequently, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and all Tactical Commanders are directed to ensure that this order is enforced within their Areas of responsibility.
“The Commissioner of Police emphasized that these points have become places of extortion and that criminals can use such points for robbery at night.
“People involved in such road blocks are warned to desist from it or face the law. The good people of Benue state are advised to report persons involved in mounting such road blocks to the nearest police station”, the PPRO advised the people of the state. (Daily Independent)
