Gunmen suspected out to hijack a car abandoned one of their gang members after a lightning operation at Uli in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

A video making its round on social showed the moment when the car was snatched from its owner with a suspected member of the gang running after them as they made to drive away.

From the video, onlookers were seen in their shops watching as the event unfolded.

Ihiala town, a border town between Anambra and Imo State, is the hotbed of gunmen attacks in Anambra State. It has been badly ravaged by insurgency in recent times.

The narrator of the video was overheard saying: “They just snatched a car from someone. This is happening in Uli right now.”

According to a source, the incident happened on Monday.

The source said: “This happened yesterday (Monday). The men in a bid to make a quick escape, left one of their members behind after snatching a car in Uli, Anambra State.”

He however did not state the fate of the gang member who was abandoned as he could not enter the vehicle as it hastily drove off.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, in his reaction said the command was not aware of the development.

He said: “We call on the originator of this video to reach out to the command for us to know the exact location that happened in Uli as there is no such report before the police in the area.
