Charitable Wisemen Club of Nigeria has donated N1.5 million to the management of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja for the payment of medical bills of indigent patients.

The all-male Non-Governmental Organisation, incorporated as a Foundation four years ago with the major objective of inspiring positive change in society, made the donation on September 6, 2023.

According to the Club’s President, Mr. Olanrewaju Akeem Oladele, to gesture was to assist indigent patients who could not foot their medical bills.

Oladele said that in line with objective of the group, such assistance would be extended to the needy in the society. He revealed that recently, the group extended its philanthropic gesture to Vetland Grammar School, Oko Oba, Agege, with the donation of furniture and other items, made financial donations to market women, widows and the less privileged, in the Club’s bid to touché the lives of the beneficiaries.

The President also hinted that the Foundation was planning to donate relief materials to some orphanage homes before end of the year, adding that with time, the 27- member Club would extend it humanitarian gestures to other parts of Nigeria and that the group was open to collaborations with individuals, financial institutions and government.

The Club's Public Relations Officer, Mr. Oluwole Christopher Tugbobo, enjoined the hospital to ensure that the management to be fair in disbursing the largess to the beneficiaries.

“Charity has been our watchword, just as the name implies. We see the need for us to be here to make sure the internally-generated funds is being properly dispatched by the LASUTH welfare management to its recipients,” said Tugbobo

Director of LASUTH Social Welfare Department, Mr. Kayode Araoye, alongside a fellow Social Welfare Officer Mr. Jamiu Idris, who received the group, expressed their gratitude to the Charitable Wisemen Club of Nigeria and promised that the funds would be appropriately shared across board, to the needy patients.

Araoye encouraged the Club not to relent on their humanitarian services and urged other organizations to emulate them.
