Kaduna State Ministry of Human Services and Social Development has trained rural women on the use of new cooking technology to save the cost of firewood, kerosene, reduce environmental hazards and lead to improved living conditions of the rural women.
In her remarks, the Commissioner Human Services and Social Development Hon. Rabi Salisu said her ministry in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology organized the One Day Training Workshop on the Use of the new technology to reduce Workload for Women.
She advised the beneficiaries not to sell the labour saving stove, noting that the equipment is cost effective because it uses less firewood and with the equipment they can produce charcoal by themselves.
She said the 50 women that benefited were selected from rural communities of the three senatorial zones of the state.
“The use of the stove will save the cost of firewood or kerosene, reduce environmental hazards and lead to improved living conditions of the rural women”, the commissioner stated.
She advised them to pay close attention on how the equipment is used so that they can teach other women what they have learnt.
The representative of the Director, Biological Services Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology available data reveals that women spend an average of 13 hours a day working, therefore a labour saving equipment like this will help reduce their workload.
“Hence the need for a labour saving equipment that will reduce the workload in women through the promotion and deployment of the labour saving technology thereby helping them to reduce their tasks at home”, she said
She called on stakeholders to embrace this technology and to spread the knowledge gained from the programme to others.
Each of the trained beneficiary was presented with the new equipment and other materials.
