The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council has drawn the attention of the state governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo to the plight of blind children at Basden Memorial Special School for the Blind in Isulo, Orumba South Local Government Area of the state.

The Union in a communique at its August Congress decried the dilapidated and deplorable condition of the school and called on the state government, corporate organisations and public spirited individuals to respond to the situation.

The communique signed by the state Chairman, Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, PhD. also contained an appeal to the governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo, to extend love and care to the children of the school.

Speaking on the matter, the President-General of Isulo community who spoke to our correspondent on the matter said the wife of ex-governor Willie Obiano, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano, did some interventions in the school during the leadership of her government.

He said though he had attracted a World Bank intervention to the school as President-General of the community that a lot still needed to be done in the school to alleviate their sufferings.

He added: "The major problem at Basden Memorial Special School for the Blind is lack of electricity supply.”
