Wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs Uzoamaka Ogbonna Nwifuru, has distributed items worth millions of naira to over 200 widows across the thirteen local government Areas of the state.
The gesture from the Ebonyi State First Lady was an event to mark this year’s women August meeting with the theme, “Mothers, where is your Child?”
Flagging-off the programme at Pa Ngele Uruta Township Stadium in Abakiliki on Tuesday, Mrs Nwifuru charged mothers to be vigilant, proactive in safeguarding their children.
Items distributed during the event to include; rice, Beans, water bumps, grinding machine, pockets, sewing machines and others to make them safe reliance.
She expressed dismay over the rate of child trafficking in the society, warned mother against given out their children as house help.
“It challenges us to reflect on our role as mothers in ensuring the safety and well-being of every child. The theme is a call to action, a call to be vigilant and proactive in safeguarding the welfare of our children.
“It is a plea for us to come together, regardless of our differences, and unite in the course of protecting the innocent and vulnerable ones among us.
“As the first lady of Ebonyi State, it has been my message to all mothers to train their children themselves and not to send them outside the state for others to train.
“This leads to different forms of child abuse and human trafficking. Ebonyi children need to be safe from such harm, hence we need to protect them and train them ourselves. As a state, we will create an environment where no child is left behind,” Mrs. Nwifuru said.
According to her, the state will invest in education, healthcare, and social support system that empower mothers and families to provide a nurturing and safe environment for their children to thrive.
Nothing that mothers are the first teachers, caregivers, and protectors of their children, Charged them not to forget their responsible for the well-being of the children.
She added that every adult, every community, every institution have a role to play in ensuring the safety and happiness of the children around them.
