Protesting NLC members
The Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has asked the federal government (FG) to increase the minimum wage to ₦200,000 and also revert the price of fuel to ₦185 per litre.
The chairman of NLC In Kaduna, Comrade Ayuba Suleiman, made this call on Wednesday as the Labour union all across Nigeria proceeded with the planned protest.
They are also protesting the tuition fees hike in public schools and withheld salaries of lecturers and workers in the universities.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced in his inaugural address to the nation on May 29 that the era of “fuel subsidy is gone.” Fuel price per liter has since increased from N185 to N617 in different parts of the country.
“What we are looking for is a salary “upper” like that of Osun and the minimum wage we can bear with is ₦200,000, we can manage that,” Suleiman said.
“Going by the minimum wage act, the law says that it is supposed to be reviewed after every five years and what we are demanding is not too much.
“We also have other demands but the number one is that we want the fuel price to be reverted to ₦185 per litre,” he added while leading the protest in Kaduna State. (The Guardian)
