In the early days of July, Smooth Productions, organisers of The Headies, announced the 35 categories of one of Nigeria’s most popular music and lifestyle awards ceremonies.
Already, some of the categories of the music award have been greeted with various reactions from various quarters.
The nomination academy of the Headies have pitched some of Nigeria’s biggest music acts against one another in, at least, six of the highly anticipated categories.
For the Album of the Year category, Burna Boy’s ‘Love Damini,’ has been pitched against Asake’s Mr Money with the vibe, Rema’s Rave and Roses, Omah Lay’s Boy Alone, Victony’s Outlaw, and Davido’s Timeless.
In the same vein, the Song of the Year category has seen the organisers pitching Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ against Burna Boy’s ‘Last Last,’ Asake’s ‘Sungba’ remix, Kizz Daniel and Tekno’s Buga, Oxlade’s Ku Lo Sa, and Pheelz Finesse, featuring and BNXN.
The Next Rated category has seen the organisers pitching producer cum singer Young Jonn against Seyi Vibes, Asake, Victony, and Spyro while the Rookie of the Year category has seen Mavin’s Bayanni, battling Khaid, Guchi, Bloody Civilian, Odumodublvck, and Eltee Skhillz.
In the same vein, the late songwriter, singer, rapper and entertainer Sound Sultan would be honoured with a Special Recognition award for his excellent stride and outstanding impact to the entertainment industry while he was alive. (The Nation)
