By ODIMEGWU ONWUMERE
A middle-age woman, Mirian Stephen, has been remanded in prison for causing bodily damage to her son of about 14 years old.
The incident happened in Rukpokwu, Rivers State, with the matter being brought to a magistrate court on Monday, July 31.
Harrison Gwamnishu, a human rights defender with an NGO, Behind Bars, based in Asaba, Rivers State but with offices across the country, and his team had earlier reported the case to the Rivers State Police Command, leading to the arrest of the woman.
On July 31, Gwamnishu posted a report on Facebook showing that the woman had been remanded in prison till early week of August.
“Need for a psychiatric hospital shows all over her body. It is not clear a woman who gave birth can do this bodily damage to her child,” said one commentator.
It is not clear in whose custody the child would be while the mother cools of in prison.
