An Area Court in Bukuru, Jos South LGA, presided over by Hon. H. H. Dolnaan, issued a ruling on Monday ordering the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Bartholomew Onyeka, to unseal all 17 Local Government Council Secretariats in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Plateau State, had sealed all the Secretariats of the 17 local government areas in the state about a month ago on the order of the Inspector General of Police. This action was taken to prevent a breakdown of law and order following a dispute between the sacked chairmen and the Transition Management chairmen seeking access to the Secretariats.

The Court’s order to unseal the Secretariats followed an application in Suit No. ACB/CV/106/2023 initiated by the Attorney-General of Plateau State (Plaintiff/applicant) against the Commissioner of Police of Plateau State (Defendant/respondent).

The Exparte Motion dated July 26^th, 2023 but filed on July 31^st, 2023, along with the Affidavit of Urgency in Support deposed to by Moses Jackke Mallan and Exhibit “A” annexed in support of the Written Address, prayed the Honourable Court for the following reliefs:

The exercise of discretion by the Hon. Court for an Interim Order setting aside the defendant’s directive sealing the Secretariats of all the 17 Local Government Councils of Plateau State.

An Interim Order unsealing all the Local Government Councils in Plateau State to allow for the immediate resumption of duties by Local Government Council staff who have been denied access to their various places of work. (Nigerian Tribune)
