TheBayelsa State Police Commandsaid that it had rescued two stolen children who were trafficked to Abia and Enugu States and arrested four suspects allegedly involved in the illicit business.

In a statement issued onMonday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, revealed the identities of the members comprising a four-man child-trafficking syndicate. The individuals involved were named as Sunday Aniele, Chioma Obi, Kingsley Chimobi, and Harriet Chukwu.

According to Punch, the suspects have already confessed to receiving a sum of N1.6 million for the trafficking of the two abducted children. The children, identified as four-year-old Success and two-year-old Prince, a female and a male respectively, were abducted from theIgbogenecommunity in theYenagoaLocal Government Area of Bayelsa State on June 19. Fortunately, they were rescued on July 21 and 22.

The police command disclosed that its operatives from theGender Unitand the State Criminal Investigation Department were responsible for apprehending Aniele and Obi on July 7 at Ughelli, Delta State. Subsequently, three days later, they arrested Chimobi and Chukwu at Onitsha, Anambra State, following a discreet investigation.

The statement further clarified that the children, Success (female, four years old) and Prince (male, two years old), were taken by Sunday Aniele (male, 22 years old) and Chioma Obi (female, 24 years old) on June 19, 2023, in Igbogene, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. (The PUNCH)
