The House of Representatives is set to investigate the killing of a member of a vigilante group and his wife, as well as those injured in the incident allegedly by soldiers of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army.

One Ebuka Oke, a member of Eke Security Neighbourhood Vigilante Watch in Udi Local Government Area of the state, and his wife were killed on June 29and three others sustained gunshot wounds while responding to the distress call of an armed robbery attack in the community.

One of those wounded said they were shot at close range by soldiers, despite the fact that they were in their full security uniform and had identified themselves.

A member representing the Ezeagu/Udi federal constituency of Enugu State, Hon. Sunday Umeha, who brought the motion to the floor, requested the house to set up an ad hoc committee to investigate the killing and “punish those found culpable, and prevent such barbaric wanton act.”

Umeha demanded an overhaul of the entire security architecture in the state “in line with new Federal Government posture and determination to ensure adequate protection of lives and properties as guaranteed by law.”

He further called for compensation of families of those who lost their lives, as well as payment of hospital expenditures of the injured.

The motion was seconded by a member representing Port Harcourt II federal constituency of Rivers State. (New Telegraph)
