Commuters, artisans, motorists, residents and motorcyclists plying the roads in Federal Housing Authority (FHA) estates in Lugbe and Gwarimpa in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have commended the management of the authority for embarking on the reconstruction of roads in the estates.

According to them, rehabilitation of the roads has reduced gridlocks, sufferings and accidents on the roads to the barest minimum.

A visit to the Lugbe estate where road reconstruction was in progress on Tuesday, personnel of Federal Roads Safety Commission (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection and Officers (VIO), attached to the area, expressed satisfaction over the ongoing roads rehabilitation, just as they confirmed that road crashes have reduced while traffic control along the corridor was now an easier task, compared to previous months.

“We commended the management of the Federal Housing Authority for considering this road as a major outlet in out of Lugbe district,” the joint patrol officers said.

“FRSC officials recalled that before now, they virtually sleep on the roads just to ensure sanity.

“We kept vigil on the road by directing traffic from morning to evening, but after the reconstruction of the road, our job is now reduced to after office hours," they said.

"Sincerely speaking, it is as if the management of FHA heard the cry of residents, pedestrians, motorcyclists and other road users,” a female officer said.

A road user, Mark John, congratulated the FHA for a job well done, saying the road repairs have curtailed his frequent visits to mechanics workshop for repairs of his motorcycle was now a thing of the past.

"The frequent damages to vehicles plying on this road is now history, as people are now enjoying smooth ride on the road lately."

The reconstruction of the FHA Lugbe/Gwarimpa roads, according to the General Manager, Infrastructure, Engr (Builder) Tukur Mohammed, started before the rainy season and would be completed in August.

"The intention of the Authority is to spread the repairs to the streets in the estate going forward, to address permanently the problem of dilapidated roads in the estates," the GM said.

A visit to the two estates located in Gwarimpa and Lugbe FHA showed resumption and beehive of activities on the roads that was hitherto in bad shape and abandoned by road users.

Officials of the FHA maintenance unit were still putting finishing touches on the Lugbe axis of the road, while those on Gwarimpa FHA have been completed and put to use.

Engr Memuna, the Project Manager and staff of the authority assured of the determination of FHA to complete the Lugbe FHA road now at. 90 per cent completion.

Management FHA under the leadership of Senator Gbenga Ashafa has often reiterated the commitment of the authority to ensure motorable roads across its estate in the country.
