Aseptuagenarian Kareem Aderemi on Monday shot himself dead with a locally-made barrel.

It was gathered that Aderemi had been battlingParkinson’s diseaseand partial blindness for months before he committed suicide.

Spokesperson of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kehinde Adeleke said: “On 10th July 2023 around 12 50PM, at Alapo’s compound, Ede, Ede North Local Government Area, one Kareem Aderemi, aged 72, of 45, Alapo’s compound, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself on the lower jaw with a local barrel.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that late Aderemi had been battling with Parkinson and partial eye problem without adequate care. He had been in deep thought for months now, before he allegedly committed suicide.

“It is pertinent to state that late Aderemi had his licensed barrel and he had always been with his barrel since he partially lost his sight but no one knew he had a cartridge with which he used to kill himself,” she said.

She noted that authorities of divisional headquarters of the Nigeria Police, Ede North have taken the barrel into their custody while arrangement is being made to bury the body according to Islamic rites.(The Nation)
