Concerned Citizens of Umuona community, Aguata Local Government Area (LGA),Anambra, have dragged their Igwe-elect, Sunday Ezeofor, to an Aguata High court, challenging his election.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports in Awka on Friday that two other persons dragged alongside the Igwe-elect are Kenneth Okoli and Mr Anthony Muobike.

NAN reports that in the suit, No. AG/85, the plaintiffs, Chiefs Joreme Umeh, Nze Fidelis Nwankwor, Paulinus Okoyeume, Mr Marcelinus Sunday Akaneme, Mr Chukwuebuka Okafor, and Mr. Madueke Nwankwo, are praying for a declaration that in accordance with the constitution of the community, Incumbent Igwe, Chief Humphrey O. Ejesieme, has not been deposed by the community.

They said that Ejesieme remains the truly elected Igwe of Umuona, created by and under the constitution of Umuona, should parade himself as such and not any other person.

They argued that the purported election that declared Sunday Ezeofor as Igwe of Umuona violated the constitution of Umuona. “It is null, void and of no effect whatsoever.”

They prayed for an order to set aside the purported election of Sunday Ezeofor as the Igwe-elect of Umuona community.

Also, they sought for an injunction restraining Sunday Ezeofor from parading himself as the Igwe-elect of Umuona whether in Umuona or elsewhere.

They are also seeking an injunction restraining him from presenting himself or offering himself for recognition by the Anambra state Government as the Igwe of Umuona community. (NAN)
