Kaduna-based rights activist, Mahdi Sheu has called for the immediate arrest of former Minister for Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, (SAN).
Mahdi’s call is coming less than 24 hours after the arrest of the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa who he says was nominated, supervised, and teleguided by Malami
“He nominated him. He supervised him. He teleguided him”. Mahdi wrote in a statement issued onThursday.
Accusing Malami of wrongdoings as regards the administration of the law while serving as AGF under former President Muhammadu Buhari, Mahdi also said the senior advocate of Nigeria must be made to explain auctions conducted by EFCC under Bawa and also give an account of the alleged stealing of $2.8 billion crude oil sales proceeds.
According to the fiery activist, the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu must prove to Nigerians that no one, including the erstwhile AG, is above the laws of the land.
“Malami prosecuted selectively. He discharged & acquitted suspects by cherry-picking. He ignored several court orders. He holds the judiciary in contempt.
“He must explain the stealing and theft of $2.8 billion Nigerian crude oil, sold in China, and which his office handled. He needs to explain auctions conducted by EFCC of huge assets: estates, mansions, ships, shares, bank accounts, cash in Naira, Dollar, Euro, and RAB carried out don’t fully
“He is not above the law & must appear to be. He needs to explain how he became mercilessly rich beyond what legal fees can stand for. His/ her family’s collection of assets needs to be scrutinised.
“Lawyers were arrested, detained, prosecuted, and jailed in the past”. The self-acclaimed non-commercial whistle-blower’s statement concluded. (New Telegraph)
