TheAlbinism Network Association (ANA)is set tocelebratethe2023 UN International AlbinismAwareness Day. The chaptercomprisesEkiti, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, OgunandLagos states.
“Albinism Network Association ANA willorganise a Conference and the Conference will adopt the principles on Specific messages to increase awareness on albinism and effective leadership as a tool for promoting inclusive society.
“Delegates Selected from eachstate will represent the South West in Nigeria,” ANA said in a statement signed by theState/South West Coordinator,Ambassador Muyiwa Abegunde, andFounding President,Sir Adeyemi Dada.
The statement, a copy of which was made available toNews Express, disclosed that the conferencewould holdat Medical Centre Staff Club Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba Lagos State,on Saturday,June24,2023,with theme,“Inclusion Is Strength”.
The UN hadon December18,2014,adopted aresolution declaring June13International Albinism Awareness Day (IAAD). In adopting the resolution, the UN recognised, “the importance of increasing awareness and understanding of albinism in order to fight against global discrimination and stigma against persons with albinism.”
South West ANA said: “Since the very first IAAD in 2015, the international community has come together to highlight the continuing stigma and discrimination against persons with albinism, against which States must take action. IAAD has also marked an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the albinism community.
“This year’stheme builds on from last years’ theme of ensuring the inclusion of the voices of persons with albinism in all sectors of life. It emphasisesthe importance of inclusion of a diversity of groups from both within and outside the albinism community.”
