•Activist alleges demolition of wife’s house

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has directed property and shop owners on proposed Ekwulobia Flyover right of way to immediately evacuate, as construction would begin soon.

Soludo, who disclosed that the decision was reached during last stakeholders’ meeting, urged those concerned to start dismantling their structures in the marked out area.

Speaking through the Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu, in a statement, yesterday, the governor said such facilities would be affected to the extent of their encroachment on the road corridor.

The statement, titled, ‘Construction of Ekwulobia Flyover To Commence Soon,’ noted: “Government is informing those whose properties and shops are on right of way of the flyover that their facilities will be affected to the extent of their encroachment on the road corridor.

“Owners of such properties and shops are hereby advised to begin dismantling their structures and evacuate their valuables immediately as agreed in the last stakeholders’ meeting.”

Recall that Commissioner for Works, Ifeanyi Okoma, had, during the inauguration of construction work in March, disclosed that a first modern bus terminal would be built in the location with capacity to accommodate 100 buses, while four kilometers of roads would be constructed round it, among others.

Meanwhile, a Human Rights Activists in the state, Osita Obi, has accused the state government of demolishing a house built by his wife at the Executive Business District of Awka, the state capital.

Obi claimed that his wife had built the house with her entire savings, including gratuity, alleging that demolition of the property has posed serious threats to her life.

In his appeal letter addressed to the state government, which was made available to journalists in Awka, yesterday, the activist maintained that his wife built the house on a land duly allocated to her by the state government.

The appeal reads in part: “On December 7, 2022, this house, at the Executive Business District, Awka, was demolished by the Anambra State Government.

“This house represents the life pension and gratuity of my wife as a retired federal civil servant. We did not illegally enter into this land. The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) duly approved the building plan.

“Why does government want to kill my wife? The state government house and lodge should not be built with the blood of my wife.” (The Guardian)
