The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, has transmitted the case file of alleged culpable homicide and other criminal charges levelled against the Majority Leader, House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, to Kano State government.

Represented by the Commissioner of Police, Kano, CP Mohammad Usaini Gumel, the IGP delivered the investigative document to Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Musa A. Lawan, after discreet findings on allegations.

Doguwa, representing Doguwa/Tudun-Wada Federal Constituency of Kano State, was slammed with a five-count charge, following the electoral violence that characterised the National Assembly election in his constituency, where some opposition party members were allegedly killed.

Doguwa was remanded by a Chief Magistrate’s Court over the criminal charges, but was later granted N500 million bail by the Federal High Court sitting in Kano, on ex parte motion premised on his fundamental right.

Apparently dissatisfied with the police investigation, the accused person had sought the intervention of the police higher authority, to investigate the circumstances sounding his trial and demanded justice and fairness.

With the reception of the IGP’s finding, Kano State government might formally proceed on his criminal prosecution.

Speaking shortly after receiving the IGP’s emissary, the Attorney General, said his ministry would study the case file and take necessary legal action in two weeks.

“ I have just received the Commissioner of Police, Kano, who came to submit the case file of Doguwa after they completes the investigation. The case was taken over by the IGP for proper investigation and that was returned to us for prosecution.

“ Let me assure the public that government would study the case file careful and proper recommendations would be issued after the study and that should not take us more than two weeks for necessary action”. AG noted.

Recall that a retired Chief Magistrate, Muktari Dandago had secured an Ex parte Order asking the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to explain why he should not be compelled to prosecute the embattled federal lawmaker over the criminal charges.(The Guardian)
