Deputy Gubernatorial Candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the just concluded 2023 Abia state governorship election and frontline businessman, Dr. Chima Desmond Anyaso, has expressed deep respect and gratitude to all workers ahead of the 2023 Workers’ Day Celebration while urging for collective efforts to improve the living conditions of all workers.

He said this ahead of the May 1st celebration to mark international workers day in a press statement released on Thursday through his media team in Umuahia, Abia State.

Dr. Chima Anyaso, who is a politician, entrepreneur, and advocate for good governance, said he is committed to seeing improvement in the well-being of all workers who have proved resilient despite the uncertainties of the economy both nationally and at the state level.

He said that their labours of love in such a trying time like this are worth celebrating.

The statement reads in part: “As a committed Nigerian and Abian, I will continue to identify with all workers. It is sad that poor standard of living are widespread across the nation, however, the Nigerian worker has kept faith with the nation and continues to do their best to survive and lift the nation up, and I am indeed proud of them

“Especially at this trying time, the efforts of every worker in Nigeria deserve a standing ovation”.

Anyaso further called for a collective effort to improve living conditions for all Nigerians saying that the government, employers, and private sectors have key roles to play in the continuous improvement of the living conditions of all in the country.

“The International Labour Organization (ILO) report shows that job quality can be improved by reducing excessive demands on workers and limiting their exposure to risks. It also highlights the importance of a positive social environment at work, including supportive management and colleagues, as well as social dialogue for improving job quality.”

“It is time we begin to show great concern for our workers by improving their living conditions collectively, especially the Low-wage workers who are often employed in jobs that pose significant health and safety risk.

“The harsh economic condition of the country coupled with job insecurity; uncertainty around work hours, contributing to instability in earnings; significant physical work demands; repetitive work; and low job decision latitude and autonomy are more reasons the government and private employers should cultivate the culture of enhancing the living conditions of workers across the country.”

He noted further that the May 1st celebration should mark a new energy towards a collective effort to improve the living conditions of all workers “since we are not complete without them”.

“And if their expertise and contributions are relevant to us as a nation or organisation, then we must pay attention to what matters to their safety and general comfort to bring about equity and fairness in our society,” he emphasised.
