Miss Face of Humanity Nigeria team and senior staff of Legal Aid Council in Abuja
By KEN GBADOS
Miss Face of Humanity Nigeria (MFOH Nigeria), the prestigious humanitarian-based global showcase for female change-makers who believe in the power of humanity to change the world, has continued to take proactive steps in advancing the task of helping indigents and persons with special needs in Nigeria.
The expression of this will was underscored on Wednesday during a strategic meeting between the team of Miss Face of Humanity Nigeria and senior staff of Legal Aid Council in Abuja at the Boardroom of the Council.
The meeting was for the MFOH Nigeria to seek collaboration with the Legal Aid Council to engender an atmosphere of alliance to effectively and efficiently establish and maintain objectives and commitments with regard to all matters related to easy access to justice for indigents.
While highlighting the difficulties that indigents in Nigeria face in their bid to access justice, the MFOH Nigeria’s Ambassador, Rita Chika Ezenwa, assured that the Miss Face of Humanity brand was poised to seek avenues to make it possible for everybody, irrespective of religion, sex, and tribe to have equal access to justice, whether rich or poor.
The MFOH Nigeria further stated that investigations have revealed that a lot of people could not access justice because of the cost, making some of them to resort to self-help.
She added that most Nigerians do not know where to seek redress when their rights are infringed upon.
According to her, it was for that reason that the Miss Face of Humanity Nigeria has resolved to partner with the Legal Aid Council to sensitize and create more awareness among the populace of the Country on a wide range of legal issues.
Welcoming the team of Miss Face of Humanity Nigeria on behalf of the Director-General, the Director of International and Corporate Operations; Bamidele O. Ibikunle, who led the team of senior staff of the Council thanked the Miss Face of Humanity brand for taking such initiative.
Bamidele reiterated the commitment of the Legal Aid Council to support engagements geared towards access to justice for indigent persons in the country. According to him, the Legal Aid Council was set up with a nationwide mandate to serve the needy and indigent Nigerians whose rights were breached and who have no financial power to seek the services of legal practitioners.
Additionally, he expressed readiness of the Legal Aid Council to partner with genuine organisations willing to advance the provisions of free quality legal service to indigent Nigerians and give voice to the voiceless.
