The Anambra State chapter of the National Youth Council (NYCN) has dismissed as a “kangaroo selection” and “unconstitutional” the recent emergence of a new set of local government area executives of the association.

It disowned the said executives in an open letter to the state Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, a copy of which was made available to News Express. The open letter signed by the state NYCN Chairman, Comrade Innocent Nduanya, comprised the communiqué issued at the end of the stakeholders meeting of Anambra NYCN Chapter held on May 14 at Klassy Hotels in the state capital, Awka. The communiqué said:

“1. Having reviewed the constitution of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) with reference to Article 18D:1, we hereby state that the tenure of the present elected local government Coordinators has not elapsed. To this effect, the stakeholders resolved that the 21 local government area coordinators elected in august 2010 still remain the constitutionally recognised coordinators of their various Local Government Areas.

“2. Citing Article18:D2, the stakeholders recognised the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past State Executive Committee (SEC) having served out their maximum two tenures in December 2012.
“3. The stakeholders are aware of the kangaroo selection of the unconstitutional state and Local Government Area Executives of the National Youth Council, Anambra State chapter.

“4. Whereas the said kangaroo selection of the state and local Government Area Executives in NYCN Anambra State chapter remains unconstitutional, null and void, ultra vires, and deliberate abuse of the fundamental rights of the youths of Anambra State. The stakeholders have therefore as a matter of urgency agreed to constitute an interim state Executives Committee(SEC).Below are the list of the interim Executives.

“5. Based on the fore-going, the stakeholders wish to notify His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, the State Governor, Constituted Authorities, Security Agencies, and the general public in Anambra state to ignore any person or group of people parading themselves as members of executives of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Anambra State chapter apart from the legitimate State Executive Committee (SEC) members.”
