AIG Zone 2, Mohammed Ali
By DEBORAH AKPEDE
The new Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police in charge of Zone 2, Mohammed Ali, on Monday warned criminals in Lagos State and Ogun to relocate from the states.
Ali gave the warning when he assumed duty at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos.
He said that Lagos and Ogun were no longer places for criminal elements to stay, that if they refused to relocate, the command would dislodge them.
“I will dislocate them, I am a fighter, I am fully prepared for the job,” he said.
He said that there would be reduction in crime in the two states.
“We want to see how we can bring crime relatively under total control, to give Lagos and Ogun that enabling environment where people will do their businesses without fear of being attacked.
“We will ensure that residents go home safe from their places of business and sleep with their two eyes closed,” he said.
He appealed to all actors and stakeholders to partner with the police to fight crime.
“In crime fighting, there is no way the police can do it alone, the teacher, parents, religious bodies, landlord associations and others are paramount and key in this fight,” he said.
Ali said that the best approach to fight cultism was through police community groups, and the command would also partner with all major stakeholders to do the job.
He said that the command would have to do crime mapping,to know where there are notorious crimes that affect residents and think about how to partner with major actors to nip such crimes in the bud.
According to him, the Nigeria Police is an organisation that is well organised.
“Everything about police revolves around discipline, there is nobody that is above discipline.
“We will strengthen those areas where we feel our men are not doing well in terms of enforcement of discipline.
“Once we are able to enforce discipline in all ramifications, everyone will do what is right. (NAN)
