An unspecified number of students and visitors of the stated-owned Olabisi Onabanjo University(OOU) Ago -Iwoye escaped death on Tuesday when a speeding Toyota Venza car skidded off the varsity’s inner road and rammed perilously into a tree.
The Incident threw students going to and fro the school through the walkway into panic as they scampered to safety in different directions.
The massive Impact triggered a huge fire, leading to an explosion that consumed the white-colored Venza.
Rescue efforts by other motorists who fought the raging flames failed, despite emptying two cans of fire extinguishers on the car.
The lone accident occurred about 100 metres away from the University New Senate building as the 300-level student on the wheel drove into the main campus.
He, however, came out of it unscathed.
The Nation tried to contact the University’s Director of Public Relations, Mr. Niyi Oduwole, for a reaction without success.
It was learnt that Oduwole was busy in respect of pressing arrangements over the 107thInaugural lecture of the university to be delivered at 2 pm by a Professor:of Language education, Prof. Sefiu Oladunjoye. (The Nation)
