A young man simply identified as Samuel has been arrested and detained after his teenager friend reportedly died after an alleged overdose of drugs on Thursday, April 7, 2023. The tragedy took place at Okuku Street, at back of Winners’ Chapel, Ovwian, in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, according to the government-ownedDelta State News Bulletin.

TheBulletinreports that the incident happened at Samuel’s residence at about 2 O’Clock in the afternoon and that the deceased died of an overdose of Tramadol.

As per theBulletin, “A young girl in the area, who gave her name as Jane, said that she usually referred to the deceased as ‘Bros’.

“Jane stated that on the said day, before the incident, a man fondly called Uncle Sam, sent someone to buy drugs which Samuel and his friend (Bros) took.

“She said that after that, Samuel went to play ball in a nearby field but did not stay long, and that on getting to the house, he saw his friend (the deceased) lying unconscious, adding that the deceased was confirmed dead by a nurse in the neighbourhood.

“A neighbour, who pleaded anonymity, said that she knew that it would come to this, alleging that the way Samuel and his friends took drugs and misbehaved was way too much for any sane person.”

TheBulletinquotes Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Edafe Bright, as confirming the report, adding that the accused, Samuel, remains in custody at the Ovwian Police Station.
