The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has said its new digital Educational Statistics (EDUSTAT) platform would ease access to quality data and insights into the country’s educational sector.

The council said with Its vast database, it was imperative to migrate from the manual way of interpreting data to a more advanced mode through technology.

Speaking at the launch in partnership with Sidmach Technologies Nigeria on Wednesday, Head of National Office, Mr. Patrick Areghan noted that the new platform would provide researchers, funding agencies, government institutions, school administrators and parents with reliable educational data collected from multiple sources and delivered in simplified graphs, summaries, and dashboards which help them enhance their decisions.

He said for many stakeholders, lack of quality data has led to inconsistencies and multiple data copies in education. He added that incorrect data and the absence of analytics have led to false facts resulting in bad decision-making and loss of revenue.

Areghan said the platform would enable educators get immediate feedback on how their students are performing and adjust their teaching strategies as needed.

“It is an innovative educational statistics platform designed to leverage WAEC’s comprehensive and reliable database of over 50 million candidates who have been tested over the years. This platform results from years of research, development, and collaboration, and we are confident that it will revolutionize how data is accessed,” he added.

He said the platform can be used to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses in schools and make informed decisions about how to improve student outcomes.

According to him, universities and colleges can also benefit from the platform by accessing data on enrollment and academic performance of their students. This can be used to identify areas where additional resources are needed to support students and improve overall performance.

Areghan said the platform was built with the highest standards of data protection to ensure that all data are confidential and secure at all times. (The Nation)
