Togolese boxer wins world light heavyweight boxing title

Germany-based Togolese boxer Kouami Folly Kuegah alias Prinz Lorenzo has won the world championship of Lightheavy Title of GBC (Global boxing council). He achieved the feat on Sunday (Dec. 13) in Germany after knocking out his Azerbaijani challenger, Bakhtiyar Isgandarzada, in the fourth round. This is the first world title won by the promising young Togolese boxer who recorded has so far recorded 9 victories against 3 defeats in his career.

“I wanted to win this world title for all my fans and the staff that are supporting me so that my people should not be discouraged. It was easy because I have noticed that my challenger has a very heavy punch. So at the beginning of this world championship anytime that I received his blow, I really felt it. But I also hoped that he cannot keep the same dynamism throughout all the 12 rounds that this fight was going to last,” Kouami Folly Kuegah explained to newsmen.

he also promised to defend the colors of his country wherever the need will arise.

“As you can see, they have drawn Togo’s flag on this world champion belt. Wherever I go, it is a pride for me. I will always defend the colours of the Togolese flag whether I am fighting in France, America or Germany. I am proud to be the first Togolese who has won this title and I will always make sure to honour my motherland,” he said.

The Global Council Boxing gives talented prospects and experienced boxers the opportunity to fight for a Championship Title in the categories World, Intercontinental, Youth or Women’s.

Kelani Bayor, Togo’s Boxing Federation Chairman, who also doubles as the chairman of the African Boxing Confederation, expressed satisfaction at the new title won by his fellow country man.

“I am happy for him and I am satisfied with the way he fought to honour his country. This title is an international recognition of the talent of African Boxer, despite the lack of means,” he told AP in Lomé.
