Tasks stakeholders, parties on peace

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has said politicians would always reconnect after differences.

He asserted that former state governor and presidential candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, remains his intimate friend.

The governor said there was nothing untoward in his chauffeuring of erstwhile governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, to the latter’s residence.

Ganduje spoke yesterday in the ancient city at a peace dinner, organised by Kano Peace Committee, in collaboration with the National Peace Committee, as part of efforts to foster a peaceful atmosphere ahead of this weekend’s gubernatorial and legislative polls.

Admitting that politics is a dirty game, the governor advised stakeholders and political parties to always promote peace, harmonious relationships and hitch-free elections.

He said it is high time political platforms built campaigns on core issues of development.

Ganduje pledged to encourage free, fair and credible elections.

In his remarks, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Amb. Abdul Zango, pledged his organisation’s readiness for a transparent exercise.

Earlier, acting co-chairman of the peace panel, Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud (SAN), lamented heightening violence in Kano since campaigns began, insisting that election should not be a do or die thing.

He urged stakeholders and security agencies to maintain neutrality and professionalism.(The Guardian)
