Fuel queue
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
A joint meeting of major actors in the ‘Operation Reduce Pump Price and Make Fuel Available’ has given marketers between Monday and Wednesday to ensure total exhaustion or sales of products in their tanks and make fresh orders to enable them to sell only with approved pump price.
After a joint meeting of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), students, youth groups, and other concerned stakeholders in the project called ‘The Reduction of Pump Price and to Make Fuel Available”, they resolved that the products should be sold within the stipulated approved pump price as from Thursday 2nd February 2023.
They agreed: “That the government should be reminded of the expiration of the deadline issued in the communique.”
Part of resolutions reached include; “Government is to setup Monitoring Committee comprising of security agencies, representative of the various marketers union, State Government, federal regulatory agencies in the fuel pricing and distributions chains, Civil Society Organisations, etc.
“Release daily routine of products coming into Edo State, where and who has the products.
“Monitor and ensure strict compliance with the directive or face sanctions from the regulatory agencies.”
They further reminded Edo State Government and the Oil Marketers of the resolutions reached at the stakeholders meeting held on Monday, January 30, 2023 at the Secretariat building and the subsequent joint press briefing held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
The coalition commended the Commissioner for Energy, Oil, and Gas, Hon. Ethan Uzamere, and the Edo State Government for their role so far in engaging the critical stakeholders in the fuel distribution chains and the Civil Society Organisations, and in making sure there was an increased supply of petroleum products to Edo State, as well as the daily updates now turning into weekly updates of publication of the list of fuel stations and marketers with the products.
