The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has congratulated the management and players of Enyimba International Football Club of Aba for emerging champions of this year’s Nigeria Glo Premier League after yesterday’s goalless draw with Sunshine Stars of Akure at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos. Enyimba thus made history as the first Nigerian clubside to win the league trophy seven times.
The Governor, who was personally present at the Teslim Balogun Stadium to cheer the Elephants and also personally receive the silver trophy, said the victory is a victory for all Abians.
He expressed happiness over the achievements of Enyimba FC and thanked the management and players for being great ambassadors of the state. Dr. Ikpeazu said that by the feat, Enyimba has confirmed that Abia State remains Nigeria’s soccer power house.
The governor reaffirmed the commitment of his administration towards youth and sports development, noting that Abia is home to great talents and potentials in all works of life which he has set out to develop and expose to the world.
He promised to give Enyimba his maximum support and all necessary incentives to enable them perform well in their CAF Champions league campaign next year.
