State of emergency to deepen Nigeria’s democracy —Akpabio

Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio, has lauded President Goodluck Jonathan for the bold step he has taken by declaring a state of emergency in order to stop the needless bloodshed in some parts of Nigeria’s North.

Speaking last night with newsmen in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, shortly after the declaration of emergency rule by President Jonathan, Gov Akpabio thanked the President for allowing the elected governors to remain in office and work with the relevant security agencies to restore sanity to the affected states– Borno, Yobe and Adamawa. He described the decision as one which would help to deepen the country’s democracy.

Akpabio denied knowledge of any Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) meeting opposing emergency declaration in any part of the country by the President, as reported by a section of the media.
