All Progressives Congress (APC) Kaduna Governorship Candidate, Senator Uba Sani, said on Saturday that the creation of state police is the solution to banditry in northern Nigeria, Kaduna in particular.

He made the assertion at a media parley at the Kaduna Council Secretariat’s of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kaduna.

Sani described Nigeria’s arms law as “weak and obsolete”, adding that “the law must be amended to allow local vigilantes the rights to handle sophisticated fire arms to face the bandits.

“There is no way local vigilantes can face able the bandits holding sophisticated weapons like AK-47 in the forest.

“For any state to address the killings perpetrated by banditry in rural communities, state police must be involved as well as local vigilantes be trained to work alongside conventional security agencies in the fight against bandits,” Sani said.

According to him, politicians must desist from politicizing security issues that affects human lives, saying his administration will focus on ways to end insecurity in the state.

He explained further that the present administration of Nasir El-Rufai has done its best through urban renewal by constructing roads and bridges in the metropolis.

According to him, if elected he will focus more on rural areas by building roads, infrastructure and tackle other problems bedeviling rural communities.

“This is my focus now to ensure that I addressed problems facing rural areas across the state by building roads and infrastructure,” he added.

Sani promised to work closely with state legislature because he cannot make any achievements without working with the legislatures in the state.

“I will also continue with open government by appointing people that are qualified to hold positions to help develop the state,” he said.
