Three people have been reported dead while eight others have been hospitalised after eating poi-sonous beans at Kwatakware village in Makarfi LGA of Kaduna State.

The incident occurred on Sunday at Mallam Jafaru Kwatakware’s house when members of his family were served with the chemicalized food by his wife.

A neighbour of the family who sought anonymity said that the beans contained traces of the chemical used to preserve the commodity after harvest.

He explained that “unknown to the wife, she cooked the beans and served the entire family.

“Eating it resulted to the death of three of the family members while eight were rushed to the hospi-tal including the wife for medical attention,” he said.

Those that lost their lives included Gambo Danlami, Rukayya Dantani and Ukashat Murtala.

Confirming the incident, the officer in charge of the hospital, popularly called Dr Adamu Abubakar, said eight persons were rushed to the hospital and are receiving treatment.

He said the patients were affected as aresult of eating beans sprayed with chemical.

When contacted on phone, the council chairman, Engineer Kabir Muazu Meyere, confirmed the inci-dent and condoled with the family over the loss.

He cautioned farmers against taking their farm produce home after spraying it with chemical. (Daily Trust)
