Less than 24 hours after he assumed office as Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke got his baptism of fire this Monday morning when riots broke out in some motorparks in Osogbo the state capital.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the trouble started as a result of some leaders of the National Road Transport Union Workers (NURTW) trying to gain control of motorparks.
Some union members protested in Old garage motorpark, Okefia, Olaiya and Aregbe.
Rival groups blocked roads preventing easy access and scaring away passersby.
Reacting swiftly to the crisis, Adeleke urged the aggrieved NURTW leaders to channel their grievances through the appropriate quarters and not take the law into their hands.
This is contained in a statement issued by Adeleke’s Chief Press Secretary, Malam Rasheed Olawale in Osogbo.
Adeleke warned against violence among transport workers’ unions in the state.
He directed security agencies to ensure safety of lives and property within the areas affected by the protest.
