There was commotion recently at Zappa Mixed Secondary School, Asaba, as a punished student led her mother and her classmates to stone and beat up the teacher who meted out the punishment, as well as the School Principal.

The school has consequently been temporarily shut down by the Delta State Government.

Narrating how the show of shame unfolded, the Principal of the school, Roseline Ogbokor, disclosed that the mother of the female Senior Secondary Two (SS2) student came with her daughter to the school to fight the teacher for punishing her daughter.

“She disclosed that the mother of the child slapped the teacher immediately she got to the school, emphasising that when the action of the woman and her child became uncontrollable she invited the vigilante,” Ms Ogbokor said, as reported byDelta State News Bulletin, a publication of the Delta State Ministry of Information.

The shocked Principal recalled how other SS 2 students of the school joined their colleague and her mother to throw stones at the teacher, adding that the students also stoned her for no reason.

The bulletin did not disclose the date of the incident, but it appears to be within the past week, as the State Government acted only on Thursday, when the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, announced the closure of the school in a statement.
