A disagreement between officials of Ebonyi State Correctional Service and the Nigeria Police on Wednesday stalled the arraignment of abducted Labour Party (LP) Ebonyi South Senatorial Candidate, Hon. Linus Okorie.

At as 8:35am, the premises of a Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki, the state capital, had been cordoned off by armed security personnel.

However, when the matter was mentioned, the police prosecutor informed the court that the matter was not due for hearing as there was no fixed date in the case.

After much argument between Okorie’s lawyers and police prosecutor, the Presiding Judge, Justice Riman Fatun Odohi, adjourned the matter till Friday, November 18, for full arraignment.

Okorie, a former two term member of the National Assembly, represented (Ohanivo) federal constituency was abducted by gun-wielding Ebubeagu operatives on October 16, 2022 in Abakaliki, on a campaign tour rally.

The former lawmaker an opponent of Governor David Umahi in the senate seat contest.

Although the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Mr. Uchenna Orji had earlier told journalists that Hon Okorie was arrested for harbouring drug peddlers.

However, when the state government took Hon.Okorie before an Abakaliki Magistrate Court after he woke from coma, haven been tortured into unconsciousness, the police slammed different charges including, abusing the governor, causing communal crises and murder on him.

Speaking to newsmen, an aide of the former lawmaker revealed that Hon. Okorie is currently before the Federal High Court in Abakaliki, where his lawyers will be filing his bail.
