A traffic warden and five other persons have been crushed by a truck in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State.
A witness said that the driver of the truck lost control at a junction in Vinukilang settlement on the outskirts of Yola and that the truck rammed into a mechanic workshop and in the process killed the victims.
A trader, Yakubu Ayuba, said the truck’s driver ran away, a development that angered youths who set the truck ablaze and that fire from the burning vehicle spread to some shops.
Another witness said, “The tipper conveying sand veered off and hit many people at the mechanic workshop. The driver escaped and people set his vehicle ablaze.
A team of policemen, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Red Cross officials were seen evacuating corpses from the accident scene. (Daily Trust)
