Arewa Consultative Youth Movement (ACYM) and the Middle Belt Youth Forum have called for the immediate resignation of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba over alleged plot by the Imo State police command to arrest the spokesperson of Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Bar Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere.
The groups noted that the move to arrest the CUPP spokesman was to stop the opposition parties from exposing more fraud in the voters register.
The President of ACYM, Mallam Kabiru Yusuf, in a statement in Abuja accused the IGP of aiding the alleged conspiracy by the Imo state governor Senator Hope Uzodinma and other APC chieftains to compromise the 2023 election.
He said the association wil soon take its members to the streets to press for the resignation of the police boss, adding that the association was aware of a plot by the anti kidnap unit of the Imo State police command to arrest the CUPP spokesman and the Labour Party candidate for Orlu federal constituency over trumped up charges.
According to him, the planned arrest was a calculated plot by the police working with APC governors to stop the opposition from further exposing those behind the manipulation of the Voter register at Givernor Uzodinma Omuma ward and 18 other states.
He said that the police rather than go after the perpetrators of the said electoral fraud “is now aiding those behind the plot to compromise the electoral process ahead of 2023.
“We have lost confidence on the ability of the current police leadership to ensure peaceful and credible election next year. And we make bold to ask the IGP to resign his job,” he stated.
ACYM also decried the continued incarceration of Owerri INEC Staff, Mr Felix Agu over his alleged involvement in the exposed fraud in the voters register in Imo state. (Daily Independent)
