A Media Consultant, Abubakar Yusuf , has described the recent Public Service award conferred on the Executive Chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mohammed Nami, by President Muhammadu Buhari as well deserved.

Yusuf noted that the award came amid the ongoing reforms and major re-organisations being carried out by the FIRS boss in the last three years.

Yusuf who made the observation in a congratulatory message he sent to Nami, commended him for his outstanding policies and programmes that have improved the country's revenue greatly.

According to him, until recently, the power of the FIRS to generate quantum revenue being deployed in funding the federation account which facilitates the monthly activities of the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) was only the exclusive preserve of other federal government parastatals such as Nigeria National Petroleum Company, Nigeria Customs Service and Central Bank of Nigeria.

The communication professional stressed that it was under the current leadership of Nami that FIRS started generating humongous funds running into trillions monthly which funds about 85 per cent of the monthly FAAC, with NNPC remitting zero allocation for several months running.

He said for nipping in the bud, the financial crises that would have been the lot of Nigeria and made payment of workers at the federal, states and local government councils was worthy of recognition.

Yusuf urged the FIRS Chairman to sustain the tempo, not only in revenue generation through its major reforms, but entrench a technology-driven template for revenue collection.

The media consultant urged FIRS boss to promote synergy with other agencies that would expose tax evaders and other sharp practices in the new system, promising that the media, as the watchdog of the society, was ready to assist him to achieve his lofty ideals.
