The Bauchi State Police command has arrested a 20-year-old cattle herder, Abubakar Isah, and others for alleged armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal possession of prohibited firearms.
The suspects were paraded at the headquarters of the commend in Bauchi on Tuesday.
Police Commissioner, Umar Sanda, said the 20-year-old was arrested on September 16 with N8.466,000 cash, one SMG rifle with a cache of high-calibre ammunition.
Recovered from the suspects are eight phones, a motorcycle and a cutlass.
Though he admitted that all the exhibits were found in his possession at the point of arrest, Isah insisted he was innocent.
Isah said he was a herder contracted by one Ibrahim now at large to herd cattle for him at another village for and to be paid thereafter.
“On the day I was arrested, I was in the back seat of the motorcycle which was ridden by my boss going to the village where I will tend the cattle for him, he did not tell me the name of the village, he only asked me to go with him,” he said.
“He gave me a bag while he rode the motorcycle. When we got to the bank of a river where we were to board a canoe, we saw policemen with guns pointed at us. My boss jumped off the motorcycle and ran away. I was then arrested and brought here.
“I only held the bag without knowing its contents; that is the reason I am here.”
However, the CP said nobody has come out to identify Isah since he was arrested, adding that he will be arraigned before the court with the exhibits.
