Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, has been discharged and acquitted by an Appeal Court in Abuja.
Kanu has been in detention and being prosecuted by the Federal Government at the Federal High Court in Abuja for 15 count charges bordering on treasonable felony and terrorism.
He is alleged to have committed the offences while agitating for Biafra nation.
Ruling on the Appeal, a three-man panel of the Court said the Federal High Court does not have the jurisdiction to try him considering his abduction and extraordinary rendition to Nigeria in defiant to the OAU convention and protocol on extradition.
While ruling, the court stated that Kanu was arrested and extradited to Nigeria and a 15-count charge preferred against him without necessarily disclosing the place, date, time and nature of the alleged offences he committed.
The court further held that the Federal Government failed to disclose where Nnamdi Kanu was arrested despite the grave allegations against him
Recall that Kanu had continued to use the IPOB agenda to fight for the independence of Biafra.
Kanu had been arrested multiple time and set free by the court but upon returning to court for an appeal picked up again by security operatives.
Mr Kanu, while under attack and following the invasion of his family house fled the country in September 2017.
He was then sighted in Israel and later continued to rally his supporters in Nigeria to employ violence in achieving secession.
It's yet to be seen if Kanu will be set free following the court judgment or will continue to remain in detention despite the court's judgment.
