Advice youths against consumption of illicit drugs, urge dealers to relocate

About 19 communities in Mbieri, Mbaitoli Local Council of Imo State have sent a Save our Souls (SOS) message to relevant authorities, to ensure that Fulani herdsmen are moved out of their farmlands.

Addressing newsmen, yesterday, in Owerri, after a youth summit, Chairman of youths of the communities, under the aegis, Council of Mbieri Youths, Chinagorom Azuoma, regretted the devastating consequences of herders’ activities on crops in their farmlands and warned that they would henceforth resist it.

According to him, an official report has been made to the Department of State Service (DSS) and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in the area, to take necessary action of ensuring that herdsmen vacated their farmlands.

He said: “The council made the resolution, following incessant reports from different youth presidents in Mbieri of wanton destruction of crops and farmlands by herdsmen in virtually all the communities and therefore warns that the council can no longer fold our arms and watch our aged mothers and farmers cry helplessly over destruction of the crops by herdsmen.”

Also, following increased consumption of illicit drugs, popularly known as “Mpkuru miri,” the youths gave the dealers one month to leave the communities, warning that youths and those who consume such to desist or be ready to face their wrath.

Azuoma said the youths had concluded plans to organise a summit, with the theme: “Youths and the Dangers of Hard drugs,” to discuss the problem, with the aim to stop it.”

He disclosed that the one-month ultimatum given drug dealers to relocate from the 19 communities must be taken seriously, warning that any erring dealer and consumer would be sanctioned.

According to Azuoma, the decision to re-unite the 19 communities was taken by organising a unity football cup competition in Mbieri during Christmas, disclosing that a committee had been set up by the council to realise it. (The Guardian)
