Gangs of migrants have launched attacks on other migrants in northern Greece in recent days, Greek police reported on Tuesday.
A 23-year-old man from Pakistan was beaten to death and a pregnant woman from Lebanon lost her child in the attacks.
The victims were on their way to central Europe, according to the police, and the suspected attackers have been arrested.
According to the news agency ANA, gangs of migrants from Syria, Pakistan, and Afghanistan have been threatening and robbing other migrants along the train line to North Macedonia.
Some of the attackers were smugglers, depriving their victims of any last cash reserves.
Many migrants hoped to reach central Europe via routes through North Macedonia, though the border crossing into Greece’s northern neighbour was not easy.
Much of the border was secured by large fences, forcing migrants to resort to smugglers to help them across. (dpa/NAN)
