The14-year-old student of the Federal Government Girls’ College, (FGGC), Oyo, Mercy Gabriel,allegedly raped by her teacher,Timothy Alayoteti hasbeen battling to regain her senses after the ugly incident. Elder sister to the girlrevealed how her younger sister has been traumatisedafter the teacher assaulted her.

She said the girl was now misbehaving as a result of the trauma and asked the federal government and security agencies to investigate and ensure justice was served.

Speaking with our correspondent on Wednesday, she said the family was forced to take the victim to a psychologist but that she was still behaving abnormally.

She said, “My sister came home with our other siblings in a very sad mood. We probed her but she didn’t talk. But about a month later, one of the PTA representatives followed her to me in my shop and the elderly woman narrated the whole story to me. She confirmed to me that her teacher, Alayoteti, raped her. Our parents went to the school but the principal said it was a mere rumour. At that time, no legal action was taken but we were forced to report the incident to the police.

The Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the school, Mr Atanda Adesina, who confirmed the rape incident to our correspondent on phone, said the association was on top of the case.

Meanwhile, a parent, Mrs Nancy Faniran, said timely intervention of the parent’s forum led to the arrest of the suspect.

She lamented that parents were surprised that the school authority did nothing after almost two weeks of the incident, saying that the principal was insisting that the issue was a rumour.

Effort to get the principal to speak on the incident proved abortive.

But the state’s police spokesman, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed that the teacher, Timothy Alayoteti, had been arrested.(Daily Trust:Text, excluding headline)
