Avisittothe resident of Mallam Salihu Umar known as Dan Ali, Hauwa’s father, reveals that the injured student is still undergoing treatment having been discharged from ABU Teaching Hospital Shika Zaria, where she underwent MRI and city scan x-rays and is now undergoing physiotherapy.
The Mathematics Teacher,Isah Mohammed was alleged to have used a heavy stick to flog the girl and her friend during his lesson for failure to obey his instructions.
Narrating the ordeal to Daily Trust, Hauwa’u Salihu said: “When our Math teacher, Mr. Isah came into our class, he wrote a note on the board, and instructed that we shall not copy till after he explains.
“Unfortunately I and my female friend started to copy the note while he was explaining and incidentally he (the teacher) spotted us. He then picked a heavy stick which was kept by our security night guards in the class and flogged us with it.
“My friend tried to protect herself from the hitting with her hand, and the stick landed on her hand thereby causing severe injury to her. While I was trying to dodge his beating, he succeeded in hitting me at the back of my neck. It was after I returned home that I became so pained and my mother had to take me to the nearest clinic for treatment.
“As the days pass, the pain continued to increase with my legs and hand going limb that I hardly move them myself. I was therefore referred to ABU teaching hospital, Zaria, where I was diagnosed to have sustained a fracture in the neck and that my spinal cord is nearly damaged.”
Mallam Dan Ali, who resides at Kwarin Dan Goma in Tudun Jukun,Zaria, said he had spent more than a N1million on the treatment of his daughter and still spending more because the treatment is ongoing.
