Nigerian airlines have warned that there would be more flight delays in the coming weeks due to aviation fuel scarcity and the closure of the Murtala Muhammed Airport runway 18L.Ibom Air today announced that passengers would experience flight delays due to the closure of the runway for the next 90 days and the scarcity of aviation fuel.
The airline however said that it would continue to mitigate the impact caused by both factors but appealed for patience from passengers. In a separate statement, Dana Air has expressed concern at the current fuel crisis, stating that it envisages delays of future flights. The statement on its social media handles read, “Due to the prevailing fuel scarcity in some airports around the country, we envisage slight delays in the coming days.”
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had on Friday, July 8, shut down the MMIA Runway 18L/36R after it commenced the installation of CAT III Airfield Ground Lighting system on it. The agency said the project is expected to last for 90 days and all normal flight operations are now being conducted through runway 18R/36L.(Saturday Sun)
