The Secretary of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Mariam Akande, said that over 50 players were expected at the Abuja International Badminton Open, billed for today, September 30 to Oct. 3.
Akande told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday that 11 countries would feature in the tournament.
NAN reports that a total of $10,000 is up for grabs at the tournament, which will hold at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Abuja National Stadium.
“Some of the national and foreign players have arrived while many are still on their way.
“Players will compete in five categories of men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
“It is a platform for players to garner points for world ranking and an opportunity for our local talents to compete with foreigners.” (NAN)
